Dan Ingoglia, Head of Administration

Mr. Ingoglia arrives from Sacramento, where he taught Social Science and Theology at Jesuit High School and held a variety of administrative roles for the past 10 years. He practiced law from 1990-1994 before spending a year in Southeast Asia teaching refugees. Mr. Ingoglia holds a BA in International Relations from UC Davis, a law degree from UOP McGeorge, and a Master’s degree in Contemplative Education from Naropa University. He is very happy to be working in a Waldorf high school, and his three children (ages 11, 9, and 6) have attended Waldorf schools since kindergarten.

Ellie Capers, High School Chair

Ellie Capers Jenkins received her B.A. degree from Antioch University, Yellow Springs, Ohio and her Masters in Education from Antioch-Keene, New Hampshire. Married for 23 years, she and her husband have two sons. Morgan graduated from SFWHS in 2004 and Gwili is in the class of 2008. Ellie completed the Waldorf Teacher Training in 2005 from the Rudolf Steiner College program here at our school. For 31 years she has worked in experiential outdoor programs throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Barbara Allen, High School Administrator

Contact Ms. Allen

Ms. Allen has served in an administrative capacity since the high school began in 1997. From 1998-2006, she also served as Director of Admission. She currently works with students, faculty, and parents concerning needs pertaining to administrative affairs. Her work is a composite of administrative functions, which include events coordination, communication, support for faculty, facility oversight, service as a parent and student resource, coordination of the Student Service Program, and representation to the school’s athletic league, conference, and section. She has been an active member of the high school’s sports program, serving on the Board of Governors of the Bay Area Conference since 1999, the North Coast Section Board of Managers since 2003, and she currently serves as President of the Bay Counties League-Central. Ms. Allen serves in a supportive role to the Head of Administration and the High School Faculty Chair. Ms. Allen is a graduate of Rice University who worked as a scientific editor in the field of biomedical research at Baylor College of Medicine for Dr. Antonio Gotto and his research team and at the Gladstone Foundation Laboratories for Cardiovascular Disease (affiliated with UCSF) for Dr. Robert Mahley and his research team. Prior to this work, she served as personal secretary to Dr. Michael DeBakey, renowned cardiovascular surgeon and then President of Baylor College of Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Surgery. She also worked in the Planning Department of Pacific Medical Center. Her two sons are graduates of SFWHS and also attended SFWS K-8.

Karen Apana, High School Student Mentor

Ms. Apana attended San Francisco State University where she received her BA in humanities in 1969, and her MA in education and lifetime California teaching credential through the Teacher Corps Cycle V in 1970 and 1971. In 1978-81 Ms. Apana trained and apprenticed with Meir Schneider Ph.D. and the Center for Self-Healing where she received California Massage Certification. She continues to maintain her therapeutic bodywork private practice. Ms. Apana is also a practicing artist and specializes in hand-building vessels and sculptures and intuitive painting. She has studied at Ft. Mason Art Center of S.F. City College (1986-1991). In 1997 Karen received her Ph.D. from the California Institute of Integral Studies, from the School of Transformative Learning with an emphasis in Consciousness, Education and Transformation. Her dissertation is called: Following the Inner Compass: researching dreams, art and intuitive experiences. She also teaches biography and parent workshops. Ms. Apana is a founding parent of San Francisco Waldorf School from which her son, Ravi graduated with the first class in 1988.

Lisa Barry, Enrollment Director

Ms. Barry has been with us since 2007, has lived in the Bay Area since High School and graduated from San Francisco State University with honors and a degree in History. Her experience has been in running the business side of small companies, managing up to 5 departments as an Operations Director and owning her own Art Company. She has a love for international travel, which began when she was an Exchange Student to New Zealand in High School. She lives in San Francisco with her Canadian husband and daughter, who is in 6th grade.

Jane Gallardo, Registrar

Ms. Gallardo joined the high school staff in December 2006 as Acting Registrar. She received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Master of Music degree in Piano from the University of Texas at Austin. Ms. Gallardo has lived in the Bay Area since 1986. Before starting a family, she taught piano and was a textbook typesetter. She has recently resumed teaching piano. Ms. Gallardo’s daughter and son attend the San Francisco Waldorf School.

Zeke Lopez, Athletics Director

Mr. Lopez grew up in Pittsburg, California in the East Bay. There he represented his high school playing Varsity Soccer and Varsity Basketball. After high school, Mr. Lopez attended Bethany University in Scotts Valley, California where he also competed on the Varsity Men’s Basketball team and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science. After teaching Fifth Grade for two years, Mr. Lopez’s began teaching at Contra Costa Christian High School in Walnut Creek where he also served as Athletic Director and Varsity Boys Basketball coach. After working at Contra Costa Christian High School for 6 years he served as Athletic Director, Varsity Boys Basketball coach and Physical Education teacher at Lighthouse Community Charter High School in Oakland, California where he helped develop and found the Bay Area’s first Charter School Athletic League. Mr. Lopez has recently completed his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Phoenix and he looks forward to establishing a great athletic program here at Waldorf High School.

Lauren Rudsten, College Counselor

Lauren received a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Chicago and did graduate work in Anthropology at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She has worked in Human Resources for several Silicon Valley companies, in the areas of technical recruiting, training, quality improvement, and employee relations.

Lauren subsequently returned to school and enrolled in the College Admissions Counseling Program offered through University of California, Berkeley. She worked as an intern at Lowell High School and later worked at Mercy High School, Burlingame as a College Advisor. Lauren joined the San Francisco Waldorf High School in August, 2007.

Arian Solberg, IT Coordinator

Mr. Solberg has served as the IT coordinator at SFWHS for the past two years. He previously worked for 5 years as a lab manager with the Instructional Computing department at UC Santa Cruz where he also graduated with a BS degree in Physics. He is currently involved in a consulting business that serves specialized institutions such as the San Francisco Waldorf School. His main interests include systems management, security, cryptography, and website and database development.
