Volunteering

San Francisco Waldorf School has a long tradition of active parent involvement through the Parents Association, which was founded by parents as a support for the faculty in 1985. The Parents Association serves as a school-wide organization to support the work of the faculty, board and administration of the school. All parents of students in the school are members of the Parents Association. Our goals include:

  • Community building through festivals and special events.
  • Fund raising through the scrip program, benefit events and the sale of Waldorf-related products.
  • Parent education through lectures, classes, study groups and special presentations.
  • General support of the school’s operations such as the library, building, grounds and gardens.

Hot Lunch Program

One day each week, parents provide a much appreciated lunch to students, faculty and staff. Based on a schedule organized by class parents, and overseen by the parent Lunch Program Coordinator, three to four parents bring and serve lunch to students, faculty, and staff for $5. The proceeds of this popular program go to the Student Activities Fund. The schedule is drawn up on a rotational basis, and all parents across all four grades are encouraged to participate in some way, either by preparing food, serving, or donating money toward the food expenses.

Library Volunteers

Parents who enjoy supporting our library may volunteer to come in on an as needed basis to assist with a variety of tasks including cataloging, shelving, and processing books and magazines. Volunteers go through a brief training offered by the librarian. This is an excellent volunteer opportunity for parents who need to customize their schedule. Volunteer hours can be arranged anytime between 8am and 5pm.

Annual Fund Appeal

Each year the school asks parent volunteers to participate in the activities around our Annual Fund campaign. Each class has at least one Annual Fund ambassador who spreads the word to the parents in their class about the mission and goals of this effort. Volunteers who especially appreciate the value of our high school's education to their students and who enjoy communicating to their fellow parents about the significance of their monetary contribution, be it big or small, are excellent candidates for this important volunteer work.

Special Events

Winter Holiday Lunch

Parents organize, prepare, and serve a special holiday lunch on the last day of school before the Winter Break in December. This luncheon has become a favorite high school tradition, and it is organized by a parent coordinator who involves all parents in the school as voluntary participants in this fabulous meal. Parents prepare all of the food, setup and decorate the gym, and then serve a full buffet luncheon with turkey and all the trimmings for all of the students, faculty and staff. Everyone participates!

Spring Night & Auction

April is the month for our Spring Night and Auction. This is the high school's major fundraiser of the year, and it requires many volunteers to create this incredible event. The Spring Night coordinator works with volunteers to procure auction items, including artwork, vacations and trips, services, and a multitude of other items. This catered event takes place at the Officers Club in The Presidio, and includes entertainment, dancing, and a silent and live auction. Our seniors serve as waiters and assistants throughout the evening.
